Welcome!

Hello! I’m Abbie Berlin with Gender Diversity Training. Welcome to my blog.  I have my master of science.  I live in the greater New York metropolitan area with my husband and three children. I am a cisgender mother of a transgender child and I’ve had different challenging situations in medical settings such as hospitals and doctor’s offices. I am sharing my experience, strength and hope to increase your understanding, empathy and sensitivity towards the transgender community. There is a real need, based on my experience, to be proactively welcoming the LGBT communities to come and use your services.

Why do companies need gender diversity training? The first step is a conversation about gender and how this impacts individuals and families within your company, hospital or office. However, these conversations need to be ongoing and followed with actions for real change to happen. Corporations today are aware that consumers have choices. They want to support and shop with companies that are LGBT friendly.

When there are lawsuits, corporations are looking to fix their image. Why not be proactive before you get bad press? One company I’m thinking about had a terrible public display of racism by one of their staff towards a customer. When I think about this company, I remember what happened years later. Once a negative story happens, it can be difficult to correct.

Why not be proactive and show that supporting the LGBT community is important to you while creating a positive image for your organization? Mistakes happen but people appreciate the integrity of trying to support a minority community. Learning to support the transgender community is a process. It requires intentional ongoing workshops to show commitment.

In my training, we work together to understand what discrimination transgender and nonbinary individuals face and figure out how to update your systems and processes accordingly. We will work together to create real change in the organization, rather than just saying the right things. Ongoing conversations are vital to implementing change and growth in a company. Each company has different systems and processes that have to be customized for them.

Our trainings start with the basic understanding of what transgender and nonbinary communities mean. Then, we go on to see how to tailor our understanding to how your company works and what it needs. There are a lot of companies that are publicly proclaiming their support to the communities of color. Your company can be on the front end of supporting the transgender community and show leadership.
